Tasmanian Plants

I am David Tng, a die-hard afficionado of plants.

In the not so distant past I may have been found lurking around the School of Plant Science at the University of Tasmania, often mulling over the minutiae of botany.

I did an honours degree in 2007 and later bits of plant related work here and there. I am currently part of the Forest Ecology lab in the School of Plant Science. In my spare time I also contribute to working on the online Key to Tasmanian Plants.

My thoughts with regards to the pursuit of botany is best encapsulated within the following verse in a book by Carlos Castaneda, The Teachings of Don Juan, A Yaqui Way of Knowledge:

“For me there is only the traveling on paths that have heart, on any path that may have heart. There I travel, and the only worthwhile challenge is to traverse its full length. And there I travel, looking, looking, breathlessly.“

Life has taken me, in an unexpected fashion, to Far North Queensland, where the distance from Tasmania makes my heart grow fonder of her lovely flora.

I now live with my longtime partner Silver Huang, and my fur-son Cooper at an idyllic location in Cairns.
